Rex Van P. had a problematic childhood and was in trouble with the law several times. In 2009, the support agency Spirit for homeless youngsters in Amsterdam took care of him. On 15 June 2009 Van P. had a meeting with his counselor and her superior, where his aggressive behavior was discussed.
